Adventure Travel Bike Tour Costa Rica: Volcanoes and Guanacaste Beaches. Active Cycling and Multisports Adventure Holidays

"...thank you profusely for really the best trip ever... It was really just a perfect combination of adventure...the tropics..., lots of physical exertion, variety of great stuff to do (caving, yoga, surfing), learning (...ocean currents, surfing class)...  we really couldn't go wrong!"
– Janet & Leo Lefebvre

Costa Rican food was delicious and we enjoyed the wonderful variety of fruits that were so available. We loved the incredible variety of birds and wildlife that were so close to us and if not visible, then audible. One of my favourite wildlife moments was watching female howler monkeys traversing a path from tree to telephone lines to another tree, one at a time, many with their babies on their backs, right above our heads. Another were the band of fearless coatis that enthusiastically greeted us on our bikes”
– Janet & Leo Lefebvre

Highlights:

Swimming under La Fortuna waterfall. Volcano Arenal sightings. Fantastic hanging bridges through the rain forest. Side trip to remote hot spring. Many, many swims in the Pacific. Rides on white sand beaches for many uninterrupted miles. Runs beside the ocean at sunrise.

challenging A ride of escalating challenges, from a start on level paved roads, to a finish with some hilly, rough, challenging sections.  Mountain bikes are strongly recommended.

challengingWorkshops on the beach, in the forest and at beachside inns. Bike rides with options to surf, yoga, fish, swim, hike, & relax. Wildlife is abundant.

It’s like we have an internal MAP that guides us to our success, but also keeps us from reaching more. Get out of your own way. Discover the Freedom to Be Extraordinarily Effective.

Join me for eight days of adventure and exploration as we make friends, experience an ancient part of the world and open up to the possibility to have Freedom to Be Extraordinarily Effective. Each day we ride a little, explore our natural surroundings a little, play or relax a little and spend a little time uncovering the Freedom to be Extraordinarily Effective.

To paraphrase Audre Lorde’s famouse quote. ‘When we dare to be powerful When we dare to be I AM in the service of others It becomes less and less important whether we are afraid.’

Courage and freedom from fear are found in authenticity - where being who we were born to be becomes more important. The power of effectiveness is rooted in authenticity.

The Plan:

Day 1: Arrival D
Pickup at Daniel Odubar airport in Liberia, for transfer to your first seaside retreat at Playa Junquillal. Test your bike for tomorrow’s ride, go for a dusk horseback ride on the beach, or a hike, then unwind over a simple dinner before:

OPENING SPACE: Evening workshop. Uncluttering space and noticing the sense of authenticity that powers effectiveness.

Hotelito Sisisi, www.hotelitosisisi.com; or
Hotel Guacamaya Lodge, www.guacamayalodge.com; Playa Junquillal

Day 2: Cycling to Nosara ~34km (21mi) BLD
This is spectacular start, riding on rough roads with very minimal traffic, touching several beaches along the way, including Ostional Beach Wildlife Refuge, where dozens, sometimes thousands of turtles come ashore nightly to lay eggs. This is the only place in the world where there a legal harvest of turtle eggs is sometimes allowed for a short period each moon. It helps the local community, prevents poaching, and enhances productivity. It also inspires lively debate between scientists and fishermen. You are very likely to see nesting turtles here, and can re-visit the beach at night to see them in abundance. Finish in the cowboy town of Nosara.

AWARENESS starts to open our eyes to how we have gotten in our own way and that it is possible to step out of our way. How did we get in our way in the first place?

Harmony Hotel; www.harmonynosara.com; Nosara

Day 3: Nosara. B
Start the day with an optional canopy tour – perhaps the best in Costa Rica, with a waterfall and fantastic views over the Pacific. Explore three beaches by bike, or on foot, do yoga at the Nosara Institute or at your hotel, or simply relax before:

WE ARE A SURVIVAL MACHINE:  How we are designed to be a very efficient survival machine and how we can go beyond survival to destiny.

Day 4: Cycling to Samara ~31km (19mi) BL
Morning ride to Samara, with a stop at Playa Garza where a coral reef protects the crescent bay and its broad, white-sand beach. Take a break under the palm trees and have a refreshing plunge before finishing your ride to Sámara. This laid-back town is one of the biggest along this ride, and provides many fine options for dinner.

STEP OUT OF SURVIVAL: How we can get control of our behaviour and move beyond survival.

Hotel Sámara Beach, Sámara, www.hotelsamarabeach.com

Day 5: Sámara. B
Morning hike, or optional horse ride to waterfalls with three cataracts and wonderful swimming. There are many choices for optional activity this afternoon, including canopy tours, sport fishing, scuba, sea-kayak, and surf – an easy introduction thanks to the coral reef protecting the beach. There is an authentic feel in this picturesque town as many Ticos spend holidays and run excellent restaurants here.
