Nova Scotia:
Summerville Beach Weekend Walking and Yoga
3 days of walking and yoga, and three nights of rest at the ocean’s edge
One of Nova Scotia’s many almost-secret pieces of paradise, Summerville Beach is a treasure that hides one of our favourite hideaways. The Quarterdeck Beachside Villas, where we spend our nights, are right on the beach, with the perennial sound of the surf always with us. Each morning, we set out on an uplifting ocean walk, carrying our picnic lunches, prepared to spend the day outside indulging all our senses in the salty air. The group is limited to six, led by your guide/yoga teacher/chef, Cathy Guest. We pursue the planned activities rain or shine, but you will be able to take a day off to go to the nearby spa, if you’d prefer, before enjoying a good meal and the camaraderie of friends.

Day 1:
Meet at the Quarterdeck Beachside Villas by 18:00, in time for a beach stroll before dinner at the award winning Quarterdeck Grill. Over dinner, and/or afterwards, we will talk about our plans for the weekend. Those who wish can be picked up in Hubbards (16:00), Chester (16:30) or Lunenburg (17:00), and leave your car behind for the weekend. Dinner is not included on this first evening.

Day 2:
Begin the day with a meditation practice before a delicious breakfast of fresh fruit, granola, coffee and tea. After packing our picnic lunches, we’ll set off on a walk to Carter’s Beach, a gorgeous series of sandy crescents defining an island-peppered and turquoise-watered bay. There is an option of driving or walking the five kilometres to the beach. Once there, we will walk some long stretches of sand, some trails (sand and dirt) and along the quiet roadside during our day of gentle exploration. There will be plenty of time for quiet contemplation, enjoying our picnic lunches, and doing yoga on the beach. We will prepare supper and eat together in Cathy’s cottage, then talk together under the stars. BLD

Day 3:
After our meditation practice, breakfast, and packing our lunches, we’ll drive about 20 minutes to Kejimkujik National Park Seaside Adjunct. This is a big walking day along beautifully designed interpretive trails, with views that would take your breath away if you were not practicing pranayama! After thisevening’s dinner at the Quarterdeck Grill, we can watch the moon over the water, and maybe make some music. BLD

Day 4:
We say goodbye to this beautiful place after our morning meditation and breakfast, gathering our belongings to head out on the day’s adventure. We will stop at the LaHave Bakery for lunch and snacks before crossing the LaHave River cable ferry to hike to Gaff Point - a three to four hour hike. B
