Slovenia & Croatia: CUSTOM Biking & Hiking Tour

Five days of cycling, eight days of hiking and exploration of Slovenia and Croatia.

Day 1: Independent Day in Ljubljana

We recommend arriving a day or two early so you have time to experience the vibrant old city. Galleries, museums and other entertaining and historical sites are pleasant distractions for those who arrive early. Most notable include Ljubljana Castle, the Triple and Dragon Bridges, and the fashionable Stari Trg.

Day 2: Transfer to Bled Lake, Lake Walk

Meet your guides in Ljubljana in the morning. From the capital you will transfer about 45 minutes to the beautiful area of Lake Bled. Once in Lake Bled, we will take a leisurely walk around the lake explore many of its beautiful sights. Lake Bled is one of the most picturesque spots to visit in Slovenia. This small lake has all of the ingredients for the perfect getaway…a castle perched high on a hillside, a pretty little island to visit, hiking trails, and secluded swimming spots. BD

Day 3: Cycling from Lake Bled to Bohinj – 36 km

Your route today begins with 10km of gradual climbing (transfers are available) to the Pokljuka Plateau. Known for its forests and mountain pastures, Pokljuka is part of Triglav National Park, Slovenia’s only National Park. The remainder of the day is mostly downhill to the wonderful meadowland villages at Bohinj. Situated near Lake Bohinj, this is the perfect place to admire the mountains and valleys. Today’s shorter riding distance allows ample time for optional activities including more cycling, paddling on the lake, or hiking Vintgar Gorge and other trails. BD

Day 4: Bohinj to Kobarid, Cycle 55 km

Avoiding Slovenia’s highest mountain pass, this morning you will cross the Alps underground aboard a 15-minute train journey through the mountains. From the western side of the mountain, you will venture into the remote Soca Valley, a region known for producing the finest cheese in all Slovenia. The turquoise Soca is considered to be one of the most wild and attractive rivers in all Europe. Stopping to taste the pure and healing water of the spring that feeds the river you will begin to understand the true nature of Slovenia! BD

Day 5: Predjame Castle Exploration & Skocjan Caves

This morning visit the Predjame Castle. The Gothic-style Predjama Castle is easily one of the world’s most dramatic castles, built directly into the side of a 404-foot cliff that hides a network of cave passages. Continue the cave exploration at the Škocjan Caves. The first monument in Slovenia and on the classical Karst, entered on the UNESCO World Heritage List. This places them in a special – honorable – place among the natural monuments of the world. BD

Day 6: Plitvice Lakes National Park Hike

3 hr morning transfer will bring us to the Plitvice Lakes National Park. Plitvice Lakes is one of the most unique places to visit in Croatia. With beautiful walking trails, boardwalks suspended over the turquoise water, stunning viewpoints, and photogenic waterfalls, the park is an amazing spot to visit and explore. The Park contains 16 interconnecting lakes that vary in color from emerald green to turquoise to deep blue, depending on mineral content and lighting conditions. BD

Day 7: Transfer to Krka National Park, Park Tour

Transfer in the morning to Krka National Park. (1 hr 45 min). Once in the park, you will take a boat tour up the river and then have time to walk and explore the falls. Krka National Park is named after the Krka River and covers an area of just over 142 square km and includes two-thirds of the river itself. The top attraction of the Park is its magnificent waterfalls, including the famous Skradinski Buk falls. After your exploration of the park, you will then transfer to Trojir for the evening (1 hr).
