Booking & Planning

The single occupancy fee covers the cost of a private room. You can find the exact amount under the “Dates & Pricing” tab on each tour page. If you prefer to share a room and avoid the extra fee, we can try to match you with a compatible roommate.

Once we have confirmed your reservation, your trip is guaranteed with some conditions: self-guided trips require a minimum of two participants, so solo travelers should choose a date when others are booked. Guided trips have a four-person minimum. If the minimum is not met, you can either pay a premium to switch to a privately-guided tour or switch to the self-guided format if available. For full details, please see our Terms & Conditions page.

Booking Freewheeling cycling and hiking tours early gives you the best chance to secure your preferred dates, accommodations, and a well-rounded small group. For popular destinations or peak seasons, we recommend booking a year or more in advance. While early planning is ideal, we are also happy to accommodate last-minute bookings for certain destinations whenever availability allows. For tours already starting to fill, see our growing groups page.

Some additional costs may apply depending on your preferences and travel arrangements. A quality hybrid bike rental is included with your tour; fees apply only if you choose to upgrade to an electric-assist or premium road bike. Single-occupancy supplements are listed on each tour page under “Dates & Pricing.” You are also responsible for your transportation to the tour’s starting point and from the finish.

During your trip, you’ll cover any meals not listed as included, optional activities, and bar bills. Restaurant gratuities are covered, but it is customary to tip your guides and drivers at the end of the tour.

If you need to cancel or change your trip, please refer to the “Cancellations” and “Your Changes” sections on our Terms & Conditions page for full details.

We strongly recommend purchasing travel insurance for all our departures. It provides valuable protection if unforeseen medical or professional issues arise—something we’ve seen benefit many guests. For our recommendations and full cancellation details, please see our Terms & Conditions Page.

Yes! Some destinations allow last-minute bookings depending on availability. While options may be limited, our team works to accommodate late reservations without compromising the quality of your cycling or hiking adventure. Extras & Custom Options

We welcome requests for private departures and customized itineraries.

To create a tailored plan, please fill out the form below with your details, and we’ll propose an itinerary designed around your preferences.

For private departures, contact us or complete our reservation form, indicating whether you prefer to travel privately or with others. Select a date not listed among our scheduled guided departures. Private guided tours may involve a surcharge depending on group size and destination. Self-guided tours offer a more independent experience, though transfers may occasionally be shared with others following the same route.

Discover more on our About Us Page. In short, we focus on small groups, unique small inns, and carefully planned trailside nutrition. We customize trips, attend to every detail, and provide high-quality Trek bikes in Canada. Our local guides bring extensive networks and expertise, and as a family-run company, we offer a creative, personal approach that makes each adventure extraordinary.

We’re thrilled you love our custom cycling jerseys! To get yours, please contact our office. Let us know your request, and we’ll get your jersey to you as quickly as possible.

    Tours & Participation

Yes! You can join a tour and ride in the support vehicle (or follow in your own vehicle, in which case a trip-specific discount may apply; call us for details). In many cases, you will be transferred to your destination of the day early enough that you can explore under your own steam. Bear in mind that on inn change days, you may not be able to check in early. Please contact us for assistance in arranging your tour to suit your needs.

For our guided tours, group sizes rarely exceed 12 participants unless you are traveling as a private group. Our typical guide-to-guest ratio is 1:6 or better, allowing us to use small inns while providing personalized service, more flexibility, and a fun, engaging experience.

We usually recommend one of our green circle “easy” adventures for first-time cyclists, offering lower exertion routes that typically don’t require vehicle support. However, you’re welcome to join more challenging trips too. On cycling tours, the support vehicle is available if needed, and e-bikes are an option for extra boost.

For hiking trips, it’s important to match your ability to the difficulty level, as on some of our routes, much of the day is spent away from the support vehicle. If you share your experience and preferences before booking, we can recommend the best tour for your first adventure.

For guided bike tours, all fitness levels are welcome, with support vehicle boosts if needed. On self-guided tours, you’ll cover distances independently, with support for luggage and occasional boosts. For hiking trips, a review of daily distances, elevations, and route notes is helpful to match your stamina.

We recommend several short bike rides (5–10 km) and at least one longer ride (20–30 km) in the weeks before your tour to reduce soreness and test comfort. For walking or hiking trips, take a few hour-long walks beforehand and try consecutive days of 2–3 hour walks to build endurance.

Our challenging tours are designed for participants seeking vigorous activity and to feel pleasantly tired at the end of each day. You can still join for the scenery, but you may need support vehicle rides or skip some strenuous sections. For example, the Gros Morne Mountain hike on the Newfoundland: Viking Trail takes about eight hours on steep slopes and is not supported by the van.

Training in advance through cycling, hiking, or cardio strengthening will enhance your experience. Early booking helps you plan your training schedule effectively.

You can bring your own bike in a transport box, but guides cannot provide routine transport or unpacking assistance. We may help store your bike box at the start or finish, and sometimes arrange a taxi pickup at the airport. Be prepared to assemble your bike at the start and repack it at the end. If you’re not comfortable assembling your bike, consider renting one of our bikes or using a local bike shop. Ensure your equipment is mechanically ready before the tour. Shipping bikes across borders is not recommended due to potential delays.

Absolutely, but it’s up to you! We recommend bringing proper clothing to stay warm and dry in all weather. If you prefer a more relaxing day or want to explore independently, your guides can help facilitate alternative activities. Please note: if members of the group are ready to ride, hike, or paddle, these activities will take priority. On inn-change days, you may spend some time in the support vehicle with your friendly guide or driver.

Yes! We collect dietary preferences before arrival and adapt trailside picnics. Guides and innkeepers are notified in advance. Most diets — vegetarian, vegan, seafood, children’s preferences — can be accommodated. For restrictive diets (kosher, gluten-free), contact us before booking for trip-specific guidance.

Yes! Families and multi-generation groups are welcome on any Freewheeling Adventure. You can request a private tour or join other families with similar-aged children. For young children, please call in advance to confirm the suitability of your chosen tour. Our flexible guiding style adapts the pace to accommodate all ages, ensuring fun for kids, parents, and grandparents alike.

Children’s bikes, trailer-bikes, and trailers are complimentary when rented alongside adult bikes on Canadian tours. Trailer bikes and tandems allow children to pedal along or freewheel safely while enjoying the sights.
